Depart Kigali in the morning for a scenic cross-border drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a journey of approximately 6–7 hours depending on the border crossing at Gatuna or Cyanika. Along the way, enjoy views of rolling hills, terraced farms, and rural life as you descend into Uganda’s lush landscapes. Arrive at Tabingi Safari Lodge in the late afternoon, where you can check in, refresh, and optionally embark on an evening game drive (around 2 hours) to catch the park’s nocturnal life beginning to stir lions preparing to hunt, hyenas calling across the plains, and elephants moving toward water. Settle in for the night surrounded by the distant sounds of the wild.
After an early breakfast, set out for a morning game drive (3–4 hours) through the Kasenyi Plains, known for its lion prides, Uganda kob, and the occasional leopard sighting. The open savannahs offer fantastic photographic opportunities, especially in the golden light of morning. Return to the lodge for lunch and a brief rest before heading out on a two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. This is one of the park’s highlights, with close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalo, and a variety of water birds including pelicans and kingfishers. The day ends with a peaceful return to Tabingi safari lodge for dinner and relaxation under the stars.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kigali, again approximately 6–7 hours on the road. Enjoy the changing scenery and perhaps stop briefly for lunch or a leg stretch along the way. Arrive back in Kigali by late afternoon or early evening, bringing with you memories of lions on the hunt, elephants at the water's edge, and the timeless rhythms of African wilderness.
