Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Kampala, heading westward toward Kibale National Park, known as the primate capital of the world. The drive covers approximately 320 kilometers and takes around 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Along the way, you’ll pass through the lush countryside, tea plantations in Fort Portal, and small rural towns that offer glimpses into everyday Ugandan life. A lunch stop in Fort Portal town provides a refreshing break before proceeding to your lodge near the forest edge. In the late afternoon, you’ll have the option to take a guided walk in the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-based eco-tourism project rich in birdlife and monkeys. The evening is spent relaxing at the lodge, soaking in the sounds of the forest and preparing for tomorrow’s trek
After an early breakfast, you head to the Kibale Forest park headquarters for a 7:30 AM briefing, followed by the start of your chimpanzee tracking experience at around 8:00 AM. The tracking can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzee groups, and once found, you’ll spend one magical hour observing these intelligent primates in their natural habitat—watching them feed, groom, and swing from the forest canopy. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and check-out. You then begin your 3-hour drive southward to Queen Elizabeth National Park, descending from the forested highlands to the open savannah plains. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, you’ll embark on an evening game drive in the Kasenyi plains, a great time to spot elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and possibly lions as they prepare for their nightly hunt. After sunset, you’ll head to your lodge within or near the park for dinner and overnight stay.
Rise early for a sunrise game drive, when predators are most active and the soft morning light casts a golden hue over the savannah. This 2–3 hour drive through the Kasenyi sector increases your chances of spotting lions, leopards, hyenas, and a variety of herbivores including Uganda kob and warthogs. After breakfast back at the lodge, you relax briefly before heading to the Mweya Peninsula for the Kazinga Channel boat safari. The two-hour cruise offers spectacular views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalo, and an abundance of water birds such as kingfishers and African fish eagles. Following the boat ride and a quick lunch, you begin the 4 to 5-hour scenic transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive takes you through the southern Ishasha sector, where tree-climbing lions are sometimes spotted lounging in fig trees. As you climb into the cooler highlands, the landscape becomes more rugged and forested. Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi by evening for dinner and a restful night in preparation for your gorilla trek.
Today is the highlight of your trip: the unforgettable experience of mountain gorilla tracking. After an early breakfast, you’ll transfer to the park headquarters for a 7:30 AM briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Groups are assigned based on fitness levels, and tracking begins shortly after 8:00 AM. The trek through the dense, misty forest can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family assigned to your group. Once located, you’ll spend a precious hour with the gorillas, watching them feed, play, and interact, often just meters away. The sense of connection and awe is indescribable. After the trek, return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest. The rest of the afternoon is free for optional cultural encounters with the local Batwa community, a forest-dwelling indigenous group, or simply relaxing while absorbing the atmosphere of the surrounding jungle
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your primate and wildlife safari. The drive covers approximately 500 kilometers and takes about 8 to 9 hours, with lunch and rest stops along the way, including a brief pause at the equator for photos and souvenir shopping. You’ll arrive in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport in the evening, in time for a late flight departure or onward arrangements. This day offers a final look at Uganda’s varied landscapes, from forested hills to open plains, leaving you with lasting memories of a truly unique and enriching experience
