After breakfast, depart Entebbe for Jinja, travelling east through the Ugandan countryside. The journey takes approximately 2½–3 hours depending on traffic. Upon arrival, visit the Source of the Nile and enjoy a boat excursion to the point where the Nile begins its journey north from Lake Victoria. After lunch, explore Jinja or relax at your accommodation and enjoy the atmosphere of this historic riverside town. Overnight in Jinja.
After breakfast, drive from Jinja towards the Sipi Falls area, with the journey taking approximately 4–5 hours. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch before spending the afternoon exploring the Sipi Falls area. A guided walk can take you to some of the waterfalls while also offering opportunities to see local coffee gardens, villages and spectacular views across the plains below Mount Elgon. Start the day early with breakfast before beginning the long drive towards Murchison Falls National Park. Break the journey at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you will enjoy a guided rhino tracking experience on foot. After the activity, continue towards Murchison Falls National Park, arriving later in the afternoon or early evening depending on road conditions and the duration of the rhino experience. Wake up early for a morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park, exploring the northern sector where you can search for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, lions and other wildlife. After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast and some relaxation before lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile towards the base of Murchison Falls. The cruise provides excellent opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants and abundant birdlife along the riverbanks. After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls National Park and begin the journey south towards Kibale Forest National Park. This is a longer transfer day, taking approximately 7–8 hours depending on the route, road conditions and stops along the way. Upon arrival around Kibale, check into your lodge and have some time to refresh. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a guided community walk around the Kibale area, providing an introduction to local life, farming practices and the communities living around the forest. Keep the evening relaxed in preparation for the following day's chimpanzee trek. Overnight near Kibale Forest National Park.
After an early breakfast, head to Kibale Forest National Park for your chimpanzee trekking experience. The trek can take several hours depending on the location and movements of the chimpanzee community, while the forest also provides opportunities to encounter other primates and bird species. After returning to the lodge for lunch and a short rest, proceed to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided swamp walk. Explore the wetland and surrounding community area while looking for monkeys, birds, butterflies and other wildlife, and learn about the importance of the wetland to the local community. After breakfast, depart Kibale for Queen Elizabeth National Park, a drive of approximately 2½–3½ hours. Arrive in time for lunch and check into your lodge before heading out for an afternoon and evening game drive. Explore the park's savannah and woodland landscapes while looking for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and predators. Continue with the game drive towards sunset before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Rise early for a morning game drive when wildlife is generally more active and temperatures are cooler. After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation. Have lunch before heading out in the afternoon for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The cruise offers excellent opportunities to see large concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, elephants and numerous water birds along the shoreline. Return to the lodge in the evening. After breakfast, depart for the Ishasha Sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes approximately 2–3 hours depending on road conditions and wildlife sightings along the way. After arrival and lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive through Ishasha, an area renowned for its scenic landscapes and tree-climbing lions. Continue exploring the sector for elephants, buffaloes, topi, antelope and other wildlife before returning to your lodge. Overnight in Ishasha.
Wake early for a morning game drive in the Ishasha Sector, giving you another opportunity to explore the area and search for wildlife in the cooler morning hours. After breakfast, continue towards Buhoma on the northern side of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The drive takes approximately 2–3 hours depending on road conditions. After checking into your lodge and having lunch, spend the late afternoon and evening enjoying a guided nature and community walk around Buhoma. Learn about the local community, traditional livelihoods and the relationship between the people and Bwindi Forest before returning to the lodge for an early dinner and rest. Overnight in Buhoma.
After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for briefing before beginning your gorilla experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. If you have booked a standard gorilla trekking permit, the experience involves hiking through the forest to locate your assigned gorilla family, followed by the permitted viewing period. If you have booked the gorilla habituation experience, the day follows the longer habituation programme and requires the appropriate habituation permit. The forest terrain can be steep and challenging, so proper hiking shoes, water and appropriate clothing are essential. After the experience, return to the lodge to relax and reflect on the day's memorable encounter. Overnight in Buhoma
After breakfast, depart Buhoma and drive towards the Rwanda border, most practically crossing through the Cyanika border towards Musanze and Volcanoes National Park. Allow approximately 3–4 hours for the combined journey and border formalities. Arrive in the Volcanoes National Park area in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Overnight in Musanze/Volcanoes National Park.
After an early breakfast, head to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for your golden monkey trekking experience. Trek into the bamboo and montane forest on the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes in search of the endangered golden monkeys. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Gorilla Guardians Cultural Village for an engaging cultural experience featuring traditional music, dance, storytelling and an introduction to local traditions and community life around the national park. Return to your lodge in the evening. Overnight in Musanze/Volcanoes National Park.
After breakfast, depart Volcanoes National Park and drive to Kigali, a journey of approximately 2–3 hours. Arrive in Kigali around midday and have lunch before beginning an afternoon city tour. Depending on your interests and available time, visit selected historical and cultural sites, explore a local market and enjoy some of Kigali's viewpoints and neighbourhoods. The evening is free to relax and enjoy your final night in Rwanda's capital. Overnight in Kigali.
Depart Kigali early in the morning for Akagera National Park, allowing approximately 3–4 hours for the journey and park formalities. Once inside the park, enjoy a full-day safari through its varied landscapes of savannah, woodland, wetlands and lakes. Spend the day searching for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos and other wildlife, with opportunities to encounter predators depending on sightings and conditions. After the full-day safari, spend the night near Akagera rather than returning to Kigali late, making the following morning's airport transfer more comfortable and practical. After breakfast, depart Akagera for Kigali, allowing approximately 3 hours for the transfer depending on traffic and road conditions. Arrive in Kigali with sufficient time for your scheduled departure flight. If your flight is later in the day, there may be time for a relaxed lunch or brief final stop in Kigali before proceeding to Kigali International Airport for your onward journey, bringing your 17-day Uganda and Rwanda safari to an end.
