Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival

On arrival in Kigali you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in and an overnight stay, ready to begin your safari refreshed the following morning.

Day 2

Kigali City Tour and Ibyiwacu Cultural Visit

After an early breakfast, you will begin with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving and dignified tribute to the more than 800,000 lives lost in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The memorial stands as a place of remembrance, education, and reflection, and as a powerful symbol of Rwanda's resilience and recovery. From there you will explore the city's lively local markets, meeting residents and gaining insight into daily life, with stops at art galleries and craft centres along the way.

After the city tour you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park, where a visit to the Ibyiwacu cultural village offers a warm and engaging introduction to Rwandan traditions, music, and dance. Later you will check in to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Meal plan: full board.

Day 3

Golden Monkey Trekking and Border Crossing to Uganda

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park offices for registration and a briefing before setting off for golden monkey trekking. This is a delightful encounter with one of the Virunga region's most striking primates, found in only a handful of places in Africa, often seen leaping and feeding among the bamboo. After your time with the golden monkeys, you will return for lunch at the lodge before crossing the border into Uganda, arriving at your lodge near Bwindi for dinner and an overnight stay. Meal plan: full board.

Day 4

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and guidelines of gorilla trekking. Divided into small groups, each accompanied by a ranger guide, you will set off into the forest in search of a mountain gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from thirty minutes to seven hours depending on where the gorillas are that day, and once they are found you will enjoy one magical hour in their company, observing them at close quarters. After lunch, any remaining time can be spent visiting the local community before you return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Meal plan: full board.

Day 5

Departure

After a relaxed breakfast, you will be transferred back to Kigali for a final city tour, taking in the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Belgian Peacekeepers' Memorial, and the historic old town, with lunch along the way. Afterwards you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in good time for your departure flight home. End of the safari.
