Day 2: Experience the most rewarding highlight: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi national park

Get ready for one of the most unforgettable wildlife experiences on the planet gorilla trekking in the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This is where Uganda’s mountain gorilla conservation story began, and it remains one of the best spots to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The experience is nothing short of magical as you hike through the dense, misty forest with the guidance of experienced rangers and trackers, listening for signs of the gorillas and following their trail through the thick vegetation. On the day of the trek, you will start with a morning briefing at the park headquarters, where rangers will go over safety guidelines and assign you to a specific gorilla family group based on your fitness level and preferences. You’ll be required to carry your gorilla permit, passport, and essentials like sturdy hiking boots, long-sleeved clothing, rain gear, gloves, snacks, and water. Porters are available to help with your backpack, and we highly recommend hiring one they not only assist you but also support the local community. Health protocols require that you keep a distance from the gorillas and avoid trekking if you feel unwell, to protect the primates from human-borne diseases. The trek can take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location that day. Once you find them, you’ll spend a magical one hour in their presence watching them feed, play, and interact in their family groups. It’s a humbling and emotional experience that stays with travelers long after they’ve left the forest. We encourage you to bring your camera (no flash) and an open heart you’re about to witness something truly special. Meal plan: full board. Accommodation: ride 4 a woman
